The METLAB metrology lab aims to give support to enterprises for solving problems associated with measurements, the calibration of measuring and monitoring equipment, their choice and management. Thanks to its professionalism, it is active in the dissemination of metrological culture through training events.
In the height of the industrial revolution Sir William Thomson, better known as Lord Kelvin, said, "I often say that when you can measure what you are talking about and you can express it in numbers, you know something about it, but when you cannot express it in numbers, your knowledge is poor and unsatisfactory". In the form of science, the Measure has given away to the modern industrial world taking it to unthinkable technological evolution levels until a few years earlier.
More than 10% of the G.D.P. in the more developed countries depends on activities of tests, analysis, measurements and alike, with steady trend to growth. In fact, companies today are constantly on one side in the search for innovative products that not only meet the needs of customers but that even exceed their expectations and on the other side to stay competitive, identifying more and more efficient production systems with increasingly restrained costs. It is therefore essential that modern companies, projected in the fourth industrial era called "Industry 4.0", be they small, medium or large, adopt management models that allow for continuous improvement of performance, both in terms of product characteristics and in economic terms.
The correct operation of the measuring instruments associated with them is at the base of efficiency of production activities. The reliability of the data collected from an equipment is subject to diminish over time due to wear, the deviation of its electronic components or exposure to mechanical stress or temperature and humidity conditions such as to compromise the proper functioning. The resulting measurement errors can cause delays, production waste or however outages that represent a cost to the company in terms of quality and efficiency. METLAB fits into this context with its service activities, representing a valuable support for small and medium-sized companies needing to check their instruments so as to ensure the reliability of measurements, in order to maintain or increase the efficiency of processes in which they are employed. To check or calibrate a measuring instrument means comparing values generated by it or measured by a similar instrument reference sample, with higher accuracy, so as to ensure the traceability of those measures to the International System of measuring units (S.I.).
METLAB Srl can carry out calibration of instruments used to measure:
METLAB recently initiated the geometric product specifications verification service, often simply called "dimensional checks," for third parties.
The Laboratory has a HEXAGON METROLOGY-DEA coordinate machine with measurement capability up to a size of 1500x900x800 (Y, X, Z) and with accuracies of 1.02+2.2L/1000 µm
Furthermore METLAB offers verification of characteristics and accuracy of machining machines, such as numerical control lathes, machining centres, boring machines, etc.
